Quick Nav
The Quick Navigation sidebar is the primary way you move through the QuickBox Pro dashboard. It organizes all installed applications, system tools, and settings into a structured hierarchy that stays visible as you work. The sidebar adapts to your role — admin users see the full navigation tree, while regular users see only the sections they have permission to access.
Sidebar layout
The sidebar is divided into five top-level sections:
| Section | What it contains |
|---|---|
Dashboard | App Dashboard, System Dashboard, and Streaming Dashboard |
Settings | General, Email, Notifications, Sessions, Security, and Registration settings |
User Management | User Admin, Groups, and Roles |
System | SSL, VPN, API, Web Console, App Templates, Logs, Changelog, and more |
Software | 11 categories organizing 66+ applications |
Each section expands to show its groups and items. Click a section header to expand or collapse it.

Category reordering
Admins can reorder software categories in the sidebar using drag-and-drop. Open the reorder panel from the Software section header, then drag categories into your preferred order. The new order is saved automatically and persists across sessions.
This is useful for putting your most-used categories — such as Download Clients or Media Servers — at the top of the list where they are easiest to reach.
Service status indicators
When a software category is expanded, each installed application shows a colored status dot next to its name:
- Green dot — The application’s service is running
- No dot — The application is not installed for the current user, or its service is stopped
Status indicators update in real time, so you can see at a glance which applications are active without navigating to the App Dashboard.
Application links
Clicking an application name in the sidebar opens its web interface directly. Most applications run behind a reverse proxy at a path like https://your-server/app-name, and the sidebar link takes you there in a new tab.
Applications that open in a new browser tab are marked with an external link badge to distinguish them from internal dashboard pages.
Sidebar collapse
You can collapse the sidebar to an icon-only rail layout using the toggle at the bottom of the sidebar. This gives you more screen space for the main content area while keeping navigation accessible.
In collapsed mode:
- Section icons remain visible
- Hovering over an icon expands the section temporarily
- Clicking the toggle again restores the full sidebar
Keyboard navigation
The sidebar supports full keyboard navigation for accessibility:
⌨️ Tab Navigation
Use Tab and Shift+Tab to move between sidebar items
↕️ Arrow Keys
Use Up and Down arrow keys to navigate within expanded sections
↩️ Enter and Space
Press Enter or Space to expand sections, toggle groups, or activate links
🔍 Search Palette
Use the global search palette to jump directly to any page — press the search icon in the top bar
Permission-aware navigation
The sidebar automatically hides pages and sections you do not have permission to access. Regular users see the Dashboard section and their installed applications. Admin users see the full navigation tree including Settings, User Management, and System sections.
Some items have additional requirements beyond role-based permissions:
- Streaming Dashboard — requires the Streaming Dashboard feature flag to be enabled
- Web Console — a built-in dashboard module that requires the Web Console feature flag and the
admin.system.consolepermission (no application installation needed) - VPN Control — requires WireGuard to be installed
- DB Management — requires phpMyAdmin to be installed
Best practices
Do
- Use category reordering to put your most-accessed software categories at the top of the sidebar
- Collapse the sidebar when you need more screen space for content-heavy pages like System Monitoring or the Streaming Dashboard
- Check the service status dots regularly to spot stopped applications early
- Use the global search palette for the fastest navigation — it finds any page instantly
Don't
- Don't be concerned if you see fewer sidebar sections than expected — items are hidden based on your permissions, not missing
- Don't rely solely on the sidebar for application management — the App Dashboard provides more detail including version info, ports, and service controls
