Getting Started with the Dashboard

This page walks you through your first login and helps you get oriented in the QuickBox Pro dashboard. By the end, you will know how to navigate the interface, personalize your experience, and find anything quickly.

Logging in

Open your browser and navigate to your server’s address — either https://your-server-ip or https://your-domain.com if you configured a domain during installation. You will see the login page.

Enter the username and password you created during QuickBox Pro installation and click Log In. If the admin has enabled the “Remember Me” option, you can check it to stay signed in across browser sessions.

Registration

If the server admin has enabled open registration, you will see a Register link on the login page. New accounts may require email verification or admin approval depending on the server’s registration policy. Contact your server admin if you are unsure whether registration is open.

Forgot your password?

Click the Forgot Password link on the login page to request a password reset. This requires the server to have an email provider configured. If email is not set up, ask your server admin to reset your password from the User Admin page or via the CLI with qb user password -u username -p newpassword.

First look

After logging in, you land on the App Dashboard — the main page where you manage your installed applications. Take a moment to explore the three areas of the interface:

The left-hand sidebar is your primary navigation. It is organized into sections, each represented by an icon:

SectionWhat you will find
Dashboard
App Dashboard (your applications), System Dashboard (server health), Streaming Dashboard (media streaming)
Settings
General, Email, Notifications, Sessions, Security, and Registration settings
User Management
User accounts, groups, roles, and the registration queue
System
SSL certificates, VPN, API settings, web console, app templates, logs, and updates
Software
Quick links to documentation for all 69+ supported applications

What you see depends on your role

Regular users see the App Dashboard (including both Application Control and Package Management with a group-filtered catalog), their profile, and any external links the admin has configured. The Settings, User Management, System, and Software sections are visible only to admin users with the appropriate permissions.

Top bar

The bar across the top of the page provides quick access to global controls:

  • Search — The search field with a Ctrl+K / Cmd+K shortcut. Type any page name to jump directly to it.
  • Language — Switch the dashboard’s display language.
  • Theme — Change the visual theme (see Choosing a theme below).
  • Alerts — View system notifications. A green dot indicates unread notifications.
  • User menu — Access your profile, or log out.

Main content area

The central panel displays the content of the currently selected page. Most pages use a centered layout that is comfortable to read. A few pages — System Dashboard, Streaming Dashboard, and Web Console — use a wider layout to make room for charts and monitoring panels.

Setting up your profile

Your profile page is where you manage your account details, security settings, and notification preferences. Navigate to it by clicking your avatar in the top-right corner and selecting your profile, or by finding Profile in the sidebar.

On your first visit, consider:

  1. Upload an avatar — Personalize your account with a profile picture. The dashboard supports PNG, JPG, WEBP, and GIF formats up to 2 MB.
  2. Verify your email — Make sure your email address is correct so you can receive password reset links and notifications.
  3. Enable two-factor authentication — Go to the Security tab and set up TOTP-based 2FA using an authenticator app like Google Authenticator or Authy. Save your recovery codes in a secure location.

Choosing a theme

The dashboard ships with four visual themes. Switch between them using the theme selector in the top bar:

ThemeStyleNotes
Spectre
Dark with green accents
Default theme
Smoked
Dark with blue accents
Defaulted
Light with blue accents
Reel
Warm dark with amber accents
Plex-inspired

Your theme choice is saved automatically and persists across sessions. Admins can also set the default theme for all users from Settings > General > Display Preferences.

The fastest way to navigate the dashboard is the search palette. Open it by clicking the search field in the top bar or pressing Ctrl+K (or Cmd+K on macOS).

Start typing any page name — “SSL”, “users”, “streaming” — and matching results appear instantly. The search is permission-aware: you will only see pages you have access to.

Keyboard navigation:

  • Arrow keys — Move through results
  • Enter — Navigate to the selected result
  • Escape — Close the search palette

Results are grouped by section with breadcrumb hints so you can see exactly where each page lives in the navigation hierarchy. If you have Emby or Jellyfin connected, you can also search your media library directly from the same palette.

Admin first steps

For server administrators

If you are the server admin, here are the essential pages to configure after your first login:

  1. Settings > General — Set your instance name, timezone, default theme, and enable or disable feature flags like the Streaming Dashboard and Web Console.
  2. User Management — Create additional user accounts, assign roles, and configure groups for app access control.
  3. SSL Certificates — Issue a Let’s Encrypt certificate for your domain to enable HTTPS.
  4. Email Settings — Configure an email provider so password resets and notifications work.
